MCI J4500 extends two-decade run as North America’s best-selling motorcoach.

Best-in-class 45-foot coach has led the market since 2004, according to industry sales data.

Des Plaines, Illinois, USA, March 17, 2026: (TSX:NFI, OTC:NFYEF, TSX:NFI.DB)
Motor Coach Industries (MCI), a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc. and North America’s motorcoach leader, announced that the J4500 continues to lead the North American market as the industry’s best-selling coach model. Introduced in 2001 for tour and charter operators, the 45-foot coach rose quickly to the #1 spot, becoming the top-selling motorcoach in 2004. Since then, it has remained the most widely purchased model in the new coach market across the United States and Canada, according to historical data from the Motorcoach Builders Survey conducted by the American Bus Association (ABA).

“Since 2004, operators have consistently selected the MCI J4500 as their preferred 45-foot coach,” said Tom Wagner, Vice President of Private Sector Sales and Service, MCI. “There has been only one year the J4500 was not the top seller — during the pandemic in 2020 — and even then, it ranked second by less than one percent.”

The Motorcoach Builders Survey, produced by the American Bus Association Foundation, tracks new and pre-owned motorcoach sales across the United States and Canada. Participating manufacturers submit sales data confidentially, which is analyzed in partnership with Oxford Economics to generate aggregated industry insights while protecting individual company data.

“The Foundation partners with Tourism Economics for its world-class research expertise,” said Lew Myers, ABA Director of Government Relations & Research. “In partnership with ABA, this work helps highlight the critical role motorcoach and group travel play in the domestic transportation sector. No other partnership produces this level of industry data.”
