MCI Expands Training Team with Veteran Technical Service Manager 

After nearly two decades with MCI, including 14 years as a Technical Service Manager (TSM), Joel brings extensive technical expertise, customer service experience, and real-world field knowledge to his new role developing the next generation of motorcoach technicians. 

Joel began his MCI career as a Service Center Technician after completing trade school and gaining experience in the heavy-duty vehicle industry. Over the years, he became a trusted technical resource for customers and service teams, helping troubleshoot complex issues and share solutions across MCI’s network. 

Now, he is bringing that experience into the classroom. 

“I enjoy the challenges we work through together, the knowledge we gain, and then being able to pass that knowledge on to others,” said Joel Aguirre, Technical Trainer, MCI. “Going through MCI Academy myself and seeing how technicians developed new skills and applied them in the field inspired me to move into training.” 

According to Scott Crawford, who leads the MCI Academy, Joel’s technical expertise and customer-focused approach made him a natural fit for the role. 

“Joel brings deep technical knowledge of the MCI product, outstanding communication skills, and a strong ability to work with customers,” said Scott Crawford, MCI Academy Training Manager. “He recently completed the MCI Academy Master Technician program and ranked at the top of every class.” 

As a TSM, Joel built a reputation not only for solving technical issues but also for helping technicians understand their root causes. He sees that field experience as an important asset in his new role. 

“I’ve seen firsthand the challenges technicians face and can help connect classroom learning to real-world situations,” said Joel. 

Joel believes today’s technicians need strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous learning as motorcoach technology continues to evolve. 

That commitment to training is increasingly important across the industry, according to Scott.  

“Proper technical knowledge directly impacts uptime, reliability, and profitability,” he said. “Training helps technicians avoid unnecessary repairs, reduce downtime, and make better maintenance decisions.” 

MCI Academy provides hands-on and classroom training designed to help technicians develop the skills needed to maintain, diagnose, and repair today’s sophisticated motorcoaches. The programs support technician development while helping customers improve fleet reliability and operational efficiency. 

For Joel, helping others succeed remains one of the most rewarding parts of his career. 

“The best feedback I’ve received is when a technician pulls me aside and says, ‘Thank you for being there. I’ve become a better technician because of the knowledge and support you provided,” he said. 

With years of frontline experience behind him, Joel is now bringing that knowledge to the classroom and helping MCI Academy strengthen the skills of motorcoach technicians across North America.
