SCOPE
The policy is intended to apply to each business entity in NFI Group operating in the provinces of Ontario and Manitoba. In addition to this policy, each individual business entity in NFI Group may have additional information and communication policies and procedures.
PURPOSE
NFI Group (which for the purpose of this Policy is defined as Motor Coach Industries Limited, New Flyer Industries Canada ULC, Frank Fair Industries Ltd., Carfair Composites Inc.) has implemented an Information and Communications Policy to remove barriers to information and communications and ensure all persons with disabilities are provided with accessible information and communications about NFI Group’s goods, services and facilities.
All information and communications materials and services provided by NFI Group will follow the principles of dignity, independence, integration and equal opportunity.
This policy describes the various policies developed by NFI Group to meet its obligations under applicable human rights and accessibility laws, including the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities, 2005 (“AODA”) and The Accessibility for Manitobans Act (“AMA”) with respect to accessible information and communication.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Vice President, Information Technology Services (ITS) and the Executive Vice President, People and Culture are responsible for establishing and updating this policy, as and when required. They are responsible for the development, communication, implementation, and interpretation of this policy.
The Vice President, Information Technology Services (ITS) is responsible for establishing and maintaining corporate practices and programs in support of this policy.
The Executive Vice President, People and Culture is responsible for the communication and rollout of the policy.
Employees are expected to and are responsible for becoming familiar with this policy and adhering to it.
POLICY
- ACCESSIBLE FORMATS AND COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORTS
Upon request, NFI Group will provide or arrange for the provision of accessible formats and communication supports for persons with disabilities in a timely manner and at no additional cost to the individual.
NFI Group will account for the person’s accessibility needs when customizing individual requests and will consult with the individual making the request to ensure suitability.
If NFI Group determines that information or communications are unconvertible, we will provide the individual requesting information or communication with:
- an explanation as to why the information or communications are unconvertible; and
- a summary of the unconvertible information or communications.
NFI Group will classify information or communications as inconvertible where:
it is not technically feasible to provide the information through a communication support or accessible format;
- the technology required to provide the information through a communication support or accessible format is not readily available;
- providing the information through a communication support or accessible format would result in undue hardship to the organization;
- the organization does not have direct control over the information; or
- the information relates to product labels or other product information.
- EMERGENCY PROCEDURE, PLANS OR PUBLIC SAFETY INFORMATION
NFI Group will ensure that all publicly available safety information and emergency procedures are provided in an accessible format or with appropriate communication supports upon request.
- ACCESSIBLE WEBSITES AND WEB CONTENT
NFI Group will ensure that its websites and web content meets or exceeds the standards set out in the World Wide Web Consortium Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (“WCAG”) in accordance with the requirements set forth in the AODA Information and Communications Standard and AMA Accessible Information and Communication Standard.
- TRAINING
NFI Group provides accessible communication training to the following individuals:
- a person who communicates directly to the public or to another organization on behalf of the organization, including employees, agents and volunteers;
- a person who develops or maintains the organization’s web content;
- a person who purchased or procures information technology or communication tools; or
- a person who develops and implements measures, policies and practices respecting accessible communication.
Training content includes:
- an overview of:
- the AODA or AMA, as applicable; the requirements under the AODA Information and Communication Standard or AMA Accessible Information and Communication Standard, as applicable; and the Human Rights Code (Ontario) or The Human Rights Code (Manitoba), as applicable;
- how to identify, prevent and remove barriers to accessible communication;
- how to provide information through a communication support or accessible format; and
- NFI Group’s accessibility policies, practices, and measures, including updates or changes.
Training is provided as soon as reasonably practicable after the individual is assigned the duties set forth above and will be provided anytime there are changes to the organization’s measures, policies and/or practices respecting accessible communication.

NFI Group will ensure that its processes for receiving and responding to feedback are accessible to persons with disabilities by providing or arranging for the provision of accessible formats and communication supports upon request. NFI Group will cooperate with the person in finding a communication method that works with their restrictions.
