MCI Service Center, Des Plaines, IL

Northwest of Chicago and sharing the same facility with MCI's headquarters, the Des Plaines MCI Service Center is home to Cary Kadyschuk, who coordinates collision repair work throughout the entire MCI North American Service Center network. Cary is a veteran of MCI's Winnipeg plant, and he carefully works from Winnipeg's original coach blueprints to make sure all collision repairs are done to OEM standards.

And if you enjoy beautiful music with your quality repairs and top motor coach diagnostics, the Des Plaines facility even has a Grammy Award nominee. Technician Andrew Craig Brown is a bass-baritone who played Farmer Boggis in Tobias Picker's children's opera "Fantastic Mr. Fox." The opera's recording just received a 2019 Grammy nomination.

It's that time of year to be more diligent about coach care and driver safety now that freezing weather conditions have arrived. Here's a short list of reminders on how to be better prepared:

  1. Drain coach air tanks daily, preferably at the end of the day before any moisture has a chance to freeze.
  2. Use the auxiliary heater and/or the block heater to assist in the starting of the engine. It's easier on both the engine and starter motor. And be sure to verify that the timer feature of the auxiliary heater works as part of the coach pre-trip inspection.
  3. Check and load-test the batteries. Remember, as the temperature drops, so does battery efficiency. Battery failure is winter's No. 1 reason for emergency service calls.
  4. Test tire pressure more frequently over the winter season. Air can leak more easily around the bead or at the valve stem in cold weather.
  5. Check windshield wiper and washer system function and replace  wiper blades if necessary.
  6. Remind your drivers to drive specifically for conditions on the road, not conditions on road signs and to maintain proper distance between all vehicles on the road.
