ANCHOR TRANSPORTATION KEEPS GROWING WITH MCI;
BUILDS ON ACQUISITION, ADDS SIX NEW MCI® D4505 COACHES
DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, SEPTEMBER 14, 2016: (TSX:NFI) (TSX:NFI.DB.U) Motor Coach Industries ("MCI"), a subsidiary of New Flyer Industries Inc. (the "Company"), the largest bus and motor coach manufacturer in North America, announced that Anchor Transportation has been part of the MCI family since its founding in 1989 with a few gently-used D-Series coaches. Today, it's all about the new and it's still MCI — the Nashville-based charter and shuttle company has just added six new D4505s to its fleet of more than 80 vehicles.
Anchor is a much bigger operator today. With the recent acquisition of Toby Charters in Louisville, Kentucky, Anchor has expanded its territory to all of Middle Tennessee and segments of Kentucky and Alabama. In addition to its Music City base, Anchor now has offices in Lexington, Tennessee, Louisville, Kentucky and Tuscumbia, Alabama.
"We're very happy with the D4505," said Jared Stancil, Vice President of Anchor Transportation. "It performs very well for us, it's allowed us to steadily grow our market base, and now we can accommodate virtually any size group. We plan to add six additional D4505s in January 2017."
Built to legendary quality standards, the MCI D4505 offers Anchor low cost of operation, high quality performance, and superior passenger comfort. The model recently received improvements including dual 150-amp Denso alternators, new parcel racks that expand luggage capacity and the REI A/V system. Anchor added power outlets at each seat and offers its passengers free Wi-Fi throughout the cabin.
Stancil also credits its Nashville roots for the company's steady growth. Nashville's rank as a convention and tourist hub is on the rise with Forbes and Travel & Leisure publishing recent favorable tourism stories, and TripAdvisor naming it among the top 10 tourist destinations in the United States.
"We're seeing tremendous growth in our town with people moving here, and we see the same happening in Louisville and others areas around us," said Stancil.
At last year's Regional Meeting of the Alabama Motorcoach Association, Georgia Motorcoach Association and South Central Motorcoach Association, Anchor Transportation was named operator of the year. In addressing the 300 attendees representing Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas, Ray Basden of Anchor Transportation — also an Alabama Motorcoach board member — thanked industry peers for the recognition. Basden also credited Anchor's more than 100 employees for their hard work that helped them earn the award.
"We have a great team," said John Stancil, President of Anchor Transportation. "Everyone is like family to us, and we count on MCI to provide the same type of service to us as we do to our clients. That's why we've stuck with MCI so long."
Anchor Transportation is certified by the Department of Defense to carry military personnel, a safety certification earned by only 10 percent of motorcoach carriers in the country. Anchor also specializes in serving student and church groups, meetings and conventions, collegiate groups, shuttle systems for special events and executive/VIP travel.
Anchor mirrors MCI's green transportation mission with the purchase of low-emissions coaches, an extensive recycling program for everything from oil and fluids to tires and green practices in each of its offices as well.
"We know that coach transportation is the greenest mass transportation option in the country," said Stancil. "We try to reinforce green practices in all areas of our business."
