- Did you know? One motor coach can displace as many as 56 passenger cars from crowded highways.
- Buses emit the fewest pounds of CO2 when compared to an average mid-sized car, commercial airliner, and passenger train traveling round trip from Washington DC to New York City and to Orlando.
(SOURCE)
- Mid-sized car: 412 lbs CO2 to New York; 1,591 lbs CO2 to Orlando
- Commercial airliner (nonstop): 1,135 lbs CO2 to New York; 2,715 lbs CO2 to Orlando
- Passenger train: 342 lbs CO2 to New York; 1,366 lbs CO2 to Orlando
- Bus: 159 lbs CO2 to New York; 615 lbs CO2 to Orlando
- Time and space saved (SOURCE)
- Mid-sized sedan (Camry, Accord) @ 5.5’ long, with 5’ space between vehicles would occupy 1,162’ highway space in traffic jam. One coach with 5’ space between vehicles would occupy 50’, saving 1,112’ of space; therefore five coaches save more than a mile of highway space that an equivalent number of cars would occupy.
- Time saved going through toll booths, as well
- Parking space, premium in most urban areas: 1 coach occupies approx 383 sq feet; 56 cars occupy approx 6,944 sq feet without accounting for ‘in between’ space.
- The U.S. Transportation system is the largest in the world, and it accounts for one-third of America’s greenhouse gas emissions – more than 515 million tons of CO2 each year. That’s nearly 70 percent of the oil consumed in the U.S. and more than we as a nation produce. (SOURCE)
