Ten things customers can do to help protect the environment while out on the road
By Carolyn A. Newton
MCI's ERSA is committed to going green, in keeping with MCI's philosophy of helping make the earth a cleaner place to breathe! By promoting regular maintenance on coaches, MCI's ERSA and Technical Call Center team encourages our customers to help the environment. By servicing equipment properly, our customers can reduce emissions, save fuel and maybe even save the energy used to make replacement parts.
ERSA's top tips for promoting Going Green:
- Use Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel whenever possible.
- Change fuel filter at regular intervals.
- Change your oil regularly to keep your engine running efficiently.
- Change oil filters each time oil is replaced.
- Check the coach A/C system to ensure there are no leaks, which will help prevent CFCs being released into the atmosphere.
- Shut coach engine off between stops to avoid long idling times. Reduce emissions, and save fuel too!
- Inspect tires, replacing those with excess wear.
- Maintain proper tire inflation to conserve fuel.
- Reduce fuel consumption by maintaining recommended speed; avoid hard stops and starts.
- Be sure to perform pre-trip inspections to help to prevent breakdowns, which may in turn save the fuel that would be used by an emergency repair vehicle.
Also, remember that if you have your maintenance performed at your nearest MCI service center, it will help to ensure that fluids and filters are being recycled rather than placed in a landfill.
