The year is coming to an end, but not the opportunity to upgrade your equipment before your customers start singing "Auld Lang Syne." Bonus Depreciation

It's an especially good time to buy new equipment if you can take advantage of Bonus Depreciation under the 2008 Economic Stimulus Act, says Mike Denny, vice president of MCI Financial Services. The rule is that the new equipment must be purchased and placed into service by December 31, 2008; the Act provides a first-year bonus depreciation of 50 percent in addition to the standard allowable Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS) depreciation. In other words, if you buy a $400,000 coach, you may be able to write an extra $200,000 off for 2008 and ultimately take tens of thousands of dollars off your tax bill. Denny notes that those using TRAC leases may also be able to take advantage of Bonus Depreciation. Operators should see their accountants to see how they can best take advantage of the Stimulus Act.

Denny says that operators with good credit continue to enjoy excellent financing terms and, as always, he and his experienced team can help find buyers the best possible deals.

What to buy?

Among the options, try a 2009 J4500 with new features including a super-smooth wide-ride suspension with Koni front shocks and Frequency Selective Damping rear shocks that improve handling, cornering and crosswind control. Electronic Stability Control and Automatic Traction Control are also among the engineering upgrades that make the 2009 J4500 an even bigger pleasure to drive. Both the E4500 and J4500 now come standard with Reverse Sensing. Entertainment options are more advanced than ever for J4500s, starting with the premium new Blaupunkt entertainment system and Wi-Fi readiness, along with options for satellite television and more. You'll also find amenities like soft-start lighting that your customers will really notice. The 2009 D4505 has undergone some changes as well, most notably a Braun wheelchair lift.
