MCI is poised to do more than ever to help commuters travel to work, play and regional destinations by coach. Making a strong showing at the recent American Public Transportation Association Expo in San Diego, MCI showed its models; had sereral of its team members selected to serve on key association councils and elected to key association positions; and affirmed its commitment to advancing the public transit cause.
The star of the trade-show display was MCI's new hybrid diesel-electric coach; the one on the floor was among the first destined to go to Houston Metro, the first agency to get on board with hybrid commuter-coach service. "That vehicle represents our commitment not only to a green future but how MCI continues to show its strength and innovation, marshalling its resources to make groundbreaking products," says Michael Melaniphy, vice president of MCI's public sector.
Michael Melaniphy, vice president of MCI's public sector, was elected to co vice-chair of the Procurement and Materials Management committee and selected to be second vice-chair of the Business Member Board of Governors. Melaniphy is also on the APTA committee, which helps keep the coach industry in the spotlight.
Karen Honeysett, business development manager - public sector, was selected out of a tough field to go through leadership training. And Dan Besserer, director of fleet support - public transit, joined the Clean Propulsion Committee. MCI's Jim Sanders and Dale Majury got together with other APTA members to develop new equipment procurement guidelines. "That's huge," says Melaniphy.
MCI also honored Riteway Tours for taking delivery of a special J4500 — the 5000th coach off the E4500/J4500 production line.
MCI also won recognition for its Webinars from APTA in the form of a Grand Prize and AdWheel Awards.
