Two MCI motor coaches are taking on charitable missions this fall. Already, an MCI® LX luxury model is being seen around the country on the Environmental Protection Agency's "Change a Light, Change the World" tour promoting the use of compact fluorescent light bulbs. Additionally, a conversion MCI® J4500 will spend 28 days in the service of the March of Dimes "Every Baby Has A Story" campaign to promote infant health. The EPA tour, which kicked off earlier this month, ended October 21 in New York City. The EPA has took the MCI LX to schools and other public venues to raise awareness of energy issues. The March of Dimes conversion coach features three slide-outs and recording equipment that will allow visitors to share their own inspirational baby stories. The 16-city tour, which started October 17, will criss-cross the United States before wrapping up November 13 in Times Square. Families will be welcomed aboard the colorfully wrapped coach and ushered into an inviting, pink-and-blue nursery-themed lounge. Those who share their stories will receive gift bags — MCI has donated 750 bus banks toward the effort (another 750 were given away at the March of Dimes Volunteer Leadership Conference, where the coach made an appearance). Already, several celebrities have offered up their own tales for the tour, and MCI employees will have their chance November 8 at MCI's headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois. The United Motorcoach Association and Trailways are donating operating expenses to support the tour, and the UMA has been instrumental in coordinating the effort. "This tour is very exciting because it's all purely about giving back to the community," says Vicki Bowman, MCI marketing manager.
