LENDING PRIVILEGES:

Credit picture bright for the prepared

We've all been bombarded with headlines about how the credit market has dried up, both for businesses and consumers. Mike Denny, vice president of MCI financial services, is seeing a different picture. "We're very fortunate in the motor-coach market that the current group of lenders is actively looking for motor-coach business. There's plenty of capital. Our key funding sources have not pulled out of the market or significantly changed their terms or requirements."

The caveat? Denny says that the lenders are being more thorough in reviewing borrowers' qualifications. He'll be addressing those requirements, as well as bonus depreciation, Section 179 expensing and other financing matters during MCI's September 23 Webinar, and he encourages all operators to attend.

Denny says he'll talk about what lenders look for when a company submits an application process, from cash flow and credit history to how the company is determining it needs new equipment. He'll also talk about ongoing business practices and how a company can make sure its financial statements are correct and issued in a timely manner.

"I like to stress that these things aren't just about obtaining financing," says Denny. "These are things that every company should do. Good financial reporting is a management tool with far-reaching effects."

Says Denny, "In tough times, there are always opportunities," he says. "Either you take the opportunities, or you let the tough times get the best of you."
