FYI from MCI™

Cummins power to come to MCI in 2007

In yet another example of Motor Coach Industries' commitment to unsurpassed market leadership, MCI is pleased to confirm that a third engine choice will soon be added to the power plant portfolio. The low-emission Cummins ISM clean diesel engine will be introduced mid-year 2007.

The industry workhorse D-Series coaches will serve as the launch platform for the ISM. The D-Series will couple the Cummins ISM with the Allison B500 Gen IV transmission. The launch of the Cummins engine into other MCI models will be completed later in the year.

Cummins has established itself as one of the leaders in bus propulsion with its dominant position in the public-transportation marketplace. This experience has put Cummins and its dealer support network in tune with the unique needs of bus operators. Many of these same transit bus operators also operate MCI Commuter Coaches and are excited about the opportunity to select Cummins power for their next coaches.

The Cummins 2007 engines will feature a newly upgraded variable-geometry turbo and Cummins' own diesel particulate filter system along with a closed-crankcase ventilation filter and variable valve timing. These features, along with numerous others, allow for the ISM to comply with the more clean-air-conscious emissions levels federally mandated for 2007.

By offering the broadest selection of EPA-compliant engines in the industry, MCI offers customers the opportunity to custom-configure their coach drive trains to optimize their unique key performance criteria. Whether you're looking for optimal fuel economy while operating long-distance line-haul service or you need to power up steep grades for mountain sightseeing tours, MCI has an engine, transmission and differential combination to meet your individual needs.

In a society that is increasingly focused on finding "green" solutions, those coach operators who are first to market with the new low-emission clean-diesel technology will be able to differentiate themselves to potential customers. Adding yet another positive message to the motor coach marketing outlook is a "win-win" proposition for operators and MCI alike.
