Ongoing training is the hallmark of a well-run maintenance program. MCI service centers pride themselves on keeping up to date on all technologies, so when ZF Astronic offered comprehensive hands-on training on its increasingly popular transmission last month, MCI jumped at the opportunity. Representatives from all nine MCI Service Centers attended the multi-day event in Vernon Hills, Illinois. Technicians learned detailed troubleshooting and repair technicques, ultimately disassembling and reassembling the transmission so they would know it inside and out. "Our service center customers can have confidence that our technicians have the expertise to take full care of their coaches' ZF transmissions," said Scott Crawford, MCI's technical training manager. David Martinez, general manager of the MCI Service Center in Los Alamitos, California, reports that his two attending technicians said it was some of the best training they had ever experienced. "You could see it in their eyes that they really enjoyed it," said Martinez. Martinez reports that the training has already paid off, helping his technicians to diagnose and repair a transmission issue that had stumped a customer. An additional benefit, according to Martinez, is that his technicians made valuable contacts at ZF, which he expects will be of benefit in the future. "This kind of training is a win-win for MCI, for ZF and for operators," says Crawford. "It's all part of offering the kind of top-quality, comprehensive service MCI customers expect."
