MAINTENANCE MATTERS

Periodically, Motor Coach Industries will issue various forms of service information for your motor coach. These can include product improvements due to supplier changes or improvements in technology; information that can improve the drivability or life expectancy of the coach; or, more rarely, safety-related items that should be addressed immediately.

There are three different types of Service Bulletins issued by MCI. They are:

  • Service Information Bulletins: SIs are issued to provide up-to-date information for the maintenance and/or operation of a specific system on your coach.
  • Product Improvement Bulletins: PIs are issued to bring your attention to changes made in production, allow you to make the same changes.
  • Field Campaign Bulletins: FCPs are issued for reliability and safety changes that NEED TO BE PERFORMED to your coach.

Ultimately, MCI issues service bulletins so that your ownership experience is as long and as profitable as possible. Our engineering doesn't stop once the coach leaves the lot, and we want you to benefit from the latest breakthroughs.

In that spirit, MCI has compiled a top-ten list of:

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO ACT UPON SERVICE BULLETINS FOR YOUR MOTOR COACH

10.

Maintain operating efficiency
With the costs of "keeping the wheels turning," it is important to maximize fuel mileage, as well as to extend the life of other service items such as tires, batteries, belts and hoses. Often, product improvements extend the normal service life of items by keeping them "in tune" with conditions and other systems. EXAMPLE: Service Bulletin 2914B.

9. Retain resale value
It's no secret that proper maintenance maximizes the trade-in or resale value of your coach. Keeping your coach in peak form helps to maximize the return on investment at the end of the line. EXAMPLE: Service Bulletin 2918C.
8. Customer comfort and satisfaction
This means repeat business. From a comfortable ride to a fresh lavatory, customer comfort and satisfaction keeps 'em coming back for more. EXAMPLE: Service Bulletin 2802.
7. Service and Testing Procedures
Sometimes as systems evolve, revised maintenance and/or testing procedures becomes necessary. Sometimes it's new technology, or maybe a new or required piece of diagnostic equipment. Keeping you advised of any changes in these items keeps the wheels turning.
6. Extended service life
Keeping your coach up to par, up to spec, and in good repair will help you keep your equipment running as long and as profitable as possible. Keeping ALL integrated systems working WITH each other can extend the life span of your investment. EXAMPLE: Service Bulletin 2920.
5. Prevent roadside failures
Nobody likes that phone call that a coach is down at zero dark thirty a.m., especially with passengers waiting to get to their destination. By keeping your coach up-to-date with the most current service information and procedures, you can be better assured of "on-time every-time", performance. EXAMPLE: Service Bulletin 2783.
4. The most current service parts
Sometimes our suppliers upgrade or change their parts. By keeping your parts people in touch with all the latest information, you can avoid searching for a part that is no longer available, or doesn't fit because a system has been updated through a Service Information bulletin. EXAMPLE: Service Bulletin 2912.
3. Add features that weren't available earlier
Upgrading an earlier model coach with LED taillights is a simple process and reduces the electrical loads on the lighting system. Adding a DVD player or related creature comforts can improve your "sell-ability" to your customers, while a wireless microphone may ease driver strain. EXAMPLE: Service Bulletin 2918C.
2. Your mechanics learn more about YOUR coaches
Sometimes a bulletin concerns an unfamiliar area or system on the coach. By performing the needed services, your mechanics can familiarize themselves with more coach systems. Other times, Bulletins are periodic reminders of the MCI Training schedules. Advance notice of training courses will allow you to schedule your technicians' time away. EXAMPLE: Service Bulletin 2913.

And, the number 1 reason WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO ACT UPON SERVICE BULLETINS FOR YOUR MOTOR COACH:

1.

It’s all about keeping the wheels turning. Your livelihood is tied directly to every rotation of the tires, every blink of the turn signal. The service information we supply is designed to help you make sure that all systems are "go," all of the time.
