Cherrey gets OMCA award

There isn't one thing that makes Cherrey Bus Lines remarkable. There are many. The Ontario Motor Coach Association recognized perhaps the main one when it honored owner Allan Cherrey with a Lifetime Achievement Award earlier this month.

Cherrey, who has served on the OMCA Board as director, secretary-treasurer, vice chair, chairman, and chair of the Executive Committee, has been active in the industry for decades. The OMCA describes Cherrey as "born into the bus business."

"I'm honored to be a small operator representing a provincial association," says Cherrey, who, as the OMCA pointed out, has acted as mechanic, bus-washer and dispatcher for his company as well as leader. "It's great to have all the people at the conference along with MCI. It's like a huge family hat has developed. This industry is huge in one way, but small in another. Our relationships are the strength of what we do."

Headquartered in Drayton, Cherrey Bus Lines goes back to the 1940s, when, like so many other operators, it started with a single school bus. The company purchased its first new coach from MCI in 1976 and grew quickly. Today, with transportation services across Ontario, including Toronto and Hamilton, and two travel agencies, Maxey Travel and Robin Hood Tours, Cherrey Bus Lines has proven itself a leader.

Cherrey received his honor at the OMCA's annual meeting, during which other operators, drivers and employees were recognized as well. MCI co-hosted the dinner at which Cherrey garnered his award and much praise.
