Board directors at Motor Coach Canada, one of Canada's major industry trade associations, got a closer look at MCI's new-engine technology and latest models during a late August visit that coincided with the association's annual meeting, held this year in Winnipeg.
It was the first time MCC has visited MCI as an organization. Dale Janzen of Beaver Bus Lines and chairman of the MCC, hosted the annual meeting in his and MCI's hometown, and most board members were able to join MCI executives for a plant tour. MCI tapped its key engineers to talk 2010 engines, electronic stability control and other major coach features. Dinner with the entire board followed.
"Even in this high-tech era, meeting face to face as we did with MCI personnel is still very important," said Brian Crow, MCC president and CEO. "Seeing a product being made and seeing what all goes into the manufacturing process reinforces the value of the motor coach. Plus there's a lot to be gained by talking to people around a dining room table."
Patricia Ziska, MCI vice president and chief customer officer, added, "It was a pleasure to welcome the MCC board. We're proud of our 2010 models and the people who build them, so it was nice to be able to showcase them for such a prominent audience. This industry is all about building relationships, and it was a good to be among friends."
In addition to Janzen, Board of Directors members include Greg Hammond, Hammond Transportation; Brendan McCullough, McCullough Coach Lines; Wayne Asquith, Asquith Consulting; Jim Devlin, Coach Canada; Mark Hannah, Pacific Western Transportation; Michael Colborne, Pacific Western Transportation; Sheldon Eggen, Charter Bus Lines of BC; Jim Diebel, Hanover Holiday Tours; Stu Kendrick, Greyhound Canada; Jamie Murray, Parkinson Coach and Tours; Brian Gillis, Ambassatours Gray Line; Adam Dorion, Prince Edward Tours; Real Boissonneault, Autocar Excellence; Roger Gervais, R. C. G. Tours; Terry Fischer, Sightline Tours; Louise Yako, BC Trucking Association; and Matthew Giardetti, Sound Insurance Services.
